Thought I’d share a funny comment Evan made the other day. Sometimes I wish I kept this blog up to date because there are just so many funny comments to write down.

A few weeks ago there was a gay pride festival/street fair on Prospect Park West in our neighborhood. I walked by with Evan and we saw this guy in the photo below. He seemed to be quite the celebrity. Where else can you find a hispanic man with a gray beard wearing an 19th century dress colored in rainbow, with a live parrot on his shoulder? Anyway he apparently made quite an impression on Evan.

A few weeks later, I was walking with him past the same street and he remembered that guy. This was the exchange:

Evan: “Daaaady - where’s the rainbow man??”

Me: “I don’t know, I think he went home”

Evan: “Maybe he’s taking a bubble bath?”

I found this quite funny. Guess you had to be there.

I bought Evan this DVD a few weeks ago which was a documentary/program hosted by Dudley Moore showing and demonstrating all the different instruments of the orchestra. When we watched it the first time, I thought maybe it was too old for him because there's a lot of talking, etc - but he seems to love it. In fact, every day the first thing he asks for when he wakes up is to watch it, and this has been the only thing on TV he's watched for the last 2 weeks or so. His favorite part is the french horns - he asks for that section every time.

Today, I made a trumpet for him out of some stuff lying around. Isil was in the kitchen doing something and she heard Evan playing along with the DVD. When she came out, he was playing almost to the note the piece he was watching. I was able to get him to do it again for the camera, but I don't think it was as good as the first one. (it never is)

A Day at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum

Last weekend we went to the new Children's Museum in Brooklyn which was just redone a few weeks ago. We had a great time. One of the coolest parts of the museum was an area that had several fake stores the kids could play in - and they were all modeled after real stores in Brooklyn. There was a Spumoni Gardens pizza store, a grocery store, a Mexican bakery, African gift shops, etc. The grocery store was the most realistic - with checkout lines and fake fruits and vegetables that felt real. They even had working phones and kids could call and answer calls from kids in the other stores.

These posts are a little out of order, but hey, I’m catching up here. Just a few weeks ago Evan turned two! It was a little bit sad because Isil and Evan were both in Turkey for his birthday. Hale made him a great party there though, and I even got to come - 21st-century-style…

I know this is the kind of post that Evan will hate me for when he’s older. It doesn’t seem embarassing to me now, but I imagine if when I was 13 years old all my friends could see a picture like this, I wouldn’t be too thrilled. Anyway, we’ll see what happens. Will blogs even be around in 11 years?

So Evan has slowly been catching on to using the toilet lately. Just this week he had his first “number 2″. I never would’ve thought a few years ago that doody would be big news, but apparently it is.

Frere Jacques

Here's a recording I made in Turkey a few weeks ago of Evan singing Frere Jacques. The loud banging noise in the middle is from when he grabbed the microphone from me and started pulling it. And towards the end, well... I think he decided to switch to singing in his own language.
