Science Experiment - Making Pickles
September 5th, 2007 by WaS
I made these a while back but didn’t have a chance to post it. Thanks to Nana Schwartz for the recipe. Click below to see the details.

The procedure for making great pickles is so simple and so fast that I don’t know why I never made them before. Maybe it’s becuase I can go downstairs and buy a jar of Batamptes but thats besides the point. It’s always better to make it yourself!
The recipe Nana so kindly shared with me (and I hope she doesn’t mind me posting it here) is as follows:
1 gallon of water
1/2 cup kosher salt
10-12 garlic cloves lightly crushed (I added quite a bit more I think)
4 tsp of pickling spice (bought at local supermarket and removed cloves)
Some hot pepper flakes
Sprigs of fresh dill
Kirby cucumbers
The process is really simple.
Put salt into water.

Put pickling spice into water.

Put garlic and other stuff into jars with cucumbers.

Cover jars with dishtowel and wait up to 4-5 days for full sour pickles.

Eat.
