I Will Never Vote for John Edwards

I’ve mostly avoided politics on here but I can’t resist after reading this. I know for sure now that I would never vote for John Edwards. Good to see at least that Obama and Clinton don’t agree with this statement. I won’t vote for a president who buries their head in the sand - even if its just posturing to get votes from the base.

NEW YORK (AP) - Democrat John Edwards Wednesday repudiated the notion that there is a “global war on terror,” calling it an ideological doctrine advanced by the Bush administration that has strained American military resources and emboldened terrorists.
In a defense policy speech he planned to deliver at the Council on Foreign Relations, Edwards called the war on terror a “bumper sticker” slogan Bush had used to justify everything from abuses at the Abu Ghraib prison to the invasion of Iraq.
“We need a post-Bush, post-9/11, post-Iraq military that is mission focused on protecting Americans from 21st century threats, not misused for discredited ideological purposes,” Edwards said in remarks prepared for delivery. “By framing this as a war, we have walked right into the trap the terrorists have set—that we are engaged in some kind of clash of civilizations and a war on Islam.”
In the first presidential debate last month in South Carolina, Edwards was one of four Democrats—including Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel—who said they did not believe there was a global war on terror. Front-runners Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama indicated that they did.
Unfortunately, you missed the point. Edwards’ point was that the phrase “global war on terror” is an empty phrase that is bandied about by this administration and others world-wide (Russia with Chechnya) to blind the populice to failed policy. His point is that there cant be a war on a philosophy. If you can argue how there can be a war between a philosophical construct and a country Id love to hear it! (who do you bomb? Where?) Terrorism is a mode of action, not a state, nation or cohesive group of individuals (see Iraq). I dont know who Id vote for, but John Edwards is one of the only candidates (and the first) to share a comprehensive plan for universal health insurance. He’s thinking past terrorism, which Im afraid too many candidates arent (and none of the sad crop of Republicans are).
Its overblown and overhyped “plots” like the Miami group of Rasta-terrorists and the most recent JFK “plot” that highlights the usage of this insipid terminology to incite fear and preserve support for failed policy. A cursory perusal of the facts explained in the news, reveals that these terrorism planners had nothing but the “will to attack”, no bomb making materials, plans, blueprints. Nothing that would constitute any ability to pull somthing off…but it still made front page news!!! Except for the NYT, thankfully. Thats what John Edwards is talking about!
Seems like I have entered your “family and friends” blog, but after I saw some political fodder I couldn’t help but respond to the above.
John Edwards is going to lose this campaign. If he’s such a populist then he should sell his big compound down in N Carolina and give it to the people who really need it in this country. Oh and by the way, he used to work for Fortress Investment Group and make gobs and gobs of money on the back of the avg american, while paying lower taxes (that was before he grossly enriched himself by frivilously suing the shit out of corporations and doctors). Interesting to see that those fat rich cats at Fortress are his largest campaign contributor. All Edwards had to say about working at Fortress was that he took the job to learn more about the industry. Does anybody really believe that?
But it shouldn’t matter much because he must be sorry about all of it…..sound familiar (hint: Iraq).
Edwards is one big Gallup poll, no original ideas, just simply figures out which way the wind is blowing.
George are you happy with that?
Is Jason really Wayne?
