Grateful Dead - 30 Years Since Cornell, 5/8/77
May 8th, 2007 by WaS
I always wish I was born 20 years earlier - back in the time when music was actually good. If I was of concert going age back in 1977, I would have loved to been at this show. This show is considered by many to be one of, if not the Grateful Dead’s finest. It’s also considered to be one of the most overrated. I don’t know the answer, but I do know that this is one scorching hot Dead show. It was one of my first bootleg tapes I owned, and one of my most coveted. Now it’s easy to find superb digital copies all around the internet.
It’s been 30 years today since this show took place at Barton Hall at Cornell University. To commemorate, below a stream of the show from archive.org. For me, the highlight is the gorgeous Scarlet>Fire. Close your eyes, turn up the volume, and bask in the sounds.
Also, on the concert page itself at Archive, there are reviews and accounts of people who were at the show here.
And how cool is this: The Dark Star Orchestra, maybe the best Dead coverband I’ve heard, is doing a live recreation of the show IN ITHACA tonight! I wish I could make it.

Update: The Mayor of Ithaca has declard May 8 as “Grateful Dead Day“!
