Returning the Canon G7

After spending over a week with the Canon G7I decided I’m returning it. It’s a good camera - even a great camera - but I decided it just wasn’t what I want. I realized after the last week that what I really want is an SLR. An SLR is what I learned on when I first started learning about photography - and I’m really looking forward to returning to that world. As good as the G7 was, the image quality just didn’t compare to what I saw from the Rebel or the Nikon SLRs. I read countless forums where people were writing posts that they were in fact comprable - but I just didn’t find that to be the case.

The one thing that really bothered me was the apparent noise at 400 ISO. I had read people complaining about this before even buying the camera, but I imagined it must be mostly hype and that I wouldn’t notice. Well, I definately did.

In any case, I’ve now been obsessing over and researching which SLR to buy. I was sold on the Canon 400D Rebel, but after going to the store and feeling the Nikons in my hand, I couldn’t go back. The Canon felt like a toy compared to the Nikons and overall I liked the handling much better. So it’s between the D40x or the D80. Both great choices so I can’t go wrong!

Here’s one of my last, and better pictures I took with the G7:
